


Bishop Eugene A. Redd, our Pastor Emeritus, was born in Milligan College, Tennessee on August 5, 1924. His father was a part-time share cropper and his mother was pastor of Grace Temple Church in Johnson City, Tennessee where he grew up. He joined the United States Navy, fought in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Bishop Redd was baptized in Jesus' name and endued with the Holy Ghost in 1946. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1947 and to New Haven in 1948, where he became a member of Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church. While there he sang in the Choir member, served as Young Peoples' President and taught Sunday School.
Bishop Redd was married to Dorothy Simmons on September 10, 1950 at Beulah Heights Church, with the late Bishop Samuel Grimes performing the ceremony. To this union were born four children. Bishop and Sis. Redd are blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bishop Redd was self-employed as a barber for twenty years. He was called into the ministry in 1951, and in 1953 was sent to the city of Ansonia to Pastor Star Bethlehem Church. In 1974, he made the decision to devote full time to the ministry. He served as pastor for 41 years. Bishop Redd served the Connecticut District Council as Pastor, District Elder, Supervisor of Evangelism & Church Extension, and Council Chairman. He also served the Parent Body of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World as Sergeant-at-Arms, Lay Director, and Treasurer of the International Church Extension and Evangelism Department.
At the National Convention of August 1988, he was appointed Bishop, and in October was installed by then Presiding Bishop James A. Johnson, as Diocesan of the 20th Episcopal District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Bishop Redd served in this capacity until August 1996, when his health forced him to retire and assume the honorary position of Bishop Emeritus.
Bishop Redd currently resides at the Hilltop Health Center in Ansonia, Connecticut. An evangelist to the core, he continues to witness and minister to those with whom he comes in contact. Right now he is working out the details with the administration of the facility for a Bible Class that he plans to teach. The work of a true shepherd never stops.
