District Elder Richard L. Saunders and First Lady Evangelist Geraldine McFarland Saunders

District Elder Richard Lorenzo Saunders was born on December 29, 1933 in Ormond Beach, Florida to Mary and Reuben Saunders. In addition to Campbell Street High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, his studies in the secular realm included Moody School of Commerce, Central Connecticut State University and The Wakefield School of Time Study. In that same realm, Elder Saunders was employed by Fafnir Bearing for 33 years, leaving to devote full time to the ministry. In the sacred realm, his studies include Holy Apostles College and Seminary for Pastoral Counseling and our own Aenon Bible College.

Elder Saunders became a member of Bethesda Apostolic Church in New Britain, Connecticut in 1958 under the pastorship of the late Dr. John Parker Shaw. There he served as Associate Minister, Choir President, Usher Board President, Young Peoples' President, Sunday School Teacher and Street Ministry Leader. In 1976 Elders Saunders moved to Star Bethlehem Church in Ansonia, teaching Sunday School, becoming Assistant Pastor and then Co-Pastor and finally being installed as pastor in June 1995, upon the retirement of Bishop Eugene Redd.

We of Star Bethlehem are proud of our pastor and grateful for his support. He encourages each of us to grow and develop in the LORD and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in doing the work of the LORD. He watches over us and gently guides us without trying to micro-manage us. He has enough trust in the Holy Spirit to trust us. We appreciate him. For it is written, We are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
