Fasting

The entire month of January is, for our church, a month of Fasting, Prayer, Bible Study and NO television. It is a month in which we, by our sacrifice and focus, re-dedicate ourselves to God. As part of our sacrifice, we fast until 4 pm each day, drinking only fluids. By so doing, we learn by our own experience that the spirit can overcome the flesh.

Reasons for Fasting

Summarized from The Full Life Study Bible by Zondervan

1. Honor God.

2. Humble soul before God to receive more grace & God's close presence.

3. Mourn Personal Sin and Failure.

4. Mourn sins of church, nation and world.

5. Seek grace for new task and re-affirm consecration to God.

6. Seek God by drawing near and prevailing in prayer against opposing spiritual forces.

7. Show repentence make way for for God to change his declared intentions.

8. Save souls from bondage of evil.

9. Gain revelation, wisdom and understanding concerning will of God.

10. Open the way for outpouring of Spirit and Christ's retrun for his people.
